The Best Workflow Tutorials

Just thought I’d let everyone know where I learned everything I know about workflows.  This site is friggin awesome, and the tutorials are very detailed.  You can tell that this guy, Stephen, put a lot of work into this.

Unfortunately, all of the associated video links on the new post are broken, and I can’t find them anywhere.

Here, he posted all of the associated files that he used in his demo.

We referred back to this meta-post (a post about a post) during a SharePoint ShopTalk call on September 9, 2010. Thank you, Laura, for the recommendation. — Preston

  • Hi, I saw the forum about “Workflow: Reminder Before Due Date – MOSS vs. WSS”. I have same sentiments as to what you have mentioned below, what if the due date has been mofidified? Could you shed some light on how you were able to resolve this concern? We are using WSS 3.0 and SPD 2007. I am really not an engineer nor a developer, It just so happens that I do understand programming and I was able to do some tweaks and modify some applications based on our organization’s requirements. I really do appreciate your help.

Laura can you guide or write a blog on Infopath 2010 implementing workflow with visual studio

  • Hi Laura,

I´m a big fan of your blog and I have learned a lot from your posts.

I have one question regarding e-mails sent from a workflow. I have searched for a workaround on how to insert a link to the list item so that it opens up in the ‘popup’ modal window?

Do you know if its possible to add javascript into the e-mail in SharePoint Designer?

  • ISSBC,
I don’t know of a way, except to purchase a product called Pentalogic Reminders.

I don’t know how to do that, I’m not a developer and have naver used Visual Studio.

Cool idea, but I don’t know if that’s possible. Try just directly editing the HTML by clicking the properties of the “send an email” action. It might work that way, but I’m not sure.

  • First of all I want to thank you for your articles about SharePoint. I am developing visual web parts for SharePoint but I’m new on this so I have a question for workflows and Visual Web part. Is there a way to assign a task as a workflow on visual web part designed form? and if yes, what are the steps? Thank you.

  • Very nice blog.
Im new to SharePoint designer and i have a question to ask.

is there a way to set the content typeid inside of a workflow?

if you have a document library with many content types ( Word documents that have different quick parts in them )

and if you from another list start the workflow so that it can populate the Word quick parts.

every time i want to create an item in my document library the workflow creates the “default” content type in stead of the one i choose.

  • Christine,
That redirect location is correct. All the videos for the tutorial are there.

Yes, the content type or content type ID field will be available to select from when creating those items.

  • Hello, and thank you very much for your tutorials. The videos for the workflow tutorials do not work on this page:

Is there another page with working videos?

    Thank you!

  • Marlee,
The videos work for me. Maybe try them on a different computer or network because your company’s firewall could be blocking them.

  • This is very helpful as I am just starting off with SPD and Workflows. Awesome!

  • Yep, all these concepts are still relevant, even now!

  • Hi Laura –

Any idea how to use a workflow in one list to enter a vlue in a lookup column that is linked to another list, minus the ID and #?

  • Hi Laura,

The first link seems to be dead now…:(

  • Yeah I scoured the internet, but it seems that Microsoft has deleted that old content and it can’t be found anywhere anymore. 🙁
