WOW Look at SharePoint Now!

Today at Microsoft’s SharePoint Virtual summit, we have seen a lot of pretty exciting announcements.  Here are some highlights of my favorites so far, and I’m really looking forward to the Office 365 admin content later as well.

New in basic sharing and collaboration, end user stuff:
  • OneDrive lets you work with all your files in Office 365 with Files On-Demand
  • Share folders from within the SharePoint Online team site document library
  • Share seamlessly from File Explorer on PC and Finder on Mac

New at the site and group level:
  • Connect existing SharePoint sites to Office 365 groups
  • Add Groups resources to navigation and pages
  • Add SharePoint pages as tabs to Microsoft Teams
  • Personalized search lets you find more of what you need.

New pages and web parts:
  • SharePoint Communication sites (think: publishing sites concept)

  • Multi-column pages
  • New web parts (Yay, finally, lists and libraries)
Workflows & Forms:
  • Submit documents for approval with new approval flow in Microsoft Flow
  • Trigger and share flows in lists & document libraries
  • PowerApps forms embed inside SharePoint lists & libraries
    Reinventing Business Processes
New for the Admin:
  • New modern SharePoint admin experience
  • New sharing controls within the OneDrive admin center in Office 365
  • Service-level encryption using customer keys
  • Conditional access policies per site
  • The new site management page includes all of your SharePoint sites – including sites connected to Office 365 Groups!

SharePoint continues to gain momentum

SharePoint plays an important role in Office 365, empowering customers to share and manage content, knowledge and apps to create a more connected workplace.  Yes, in most cases SharePoint Online is more secure than your on-premises farm.

Adoption of SharePoint in Office 365:

· More than 250,000 organizations and over 85 percent of Fortune 500 companies now have SharePoint as part of Office 365.

· In the last year, usage of SharePoint has grown 90 percent, content stored has grown 300 percent and more than 10 million new SharePoint sites have been created.

· More than 60 percent of SharePoint seats are now online, reflecting the value customers see with SharePoint in Office 365.
